Fans Of Lathe Machines Are Gonna Jizz All Over This Video

Submitted by: scheckydamon 2 weeks ago Science

Watch in awe as a Bach trumpet mouthpiece is etched out of solid brass. So precise and satisfying.

Brass is so soft...take that turret lathe into some stainless steel. Ran a turret lathe back in the day that was used in WW2

I just have to say here that was not the smart assed title I submitted for this entry. It's good but jizz is a bit extreme for lathes.

I actually own a Bach Stradivarius Trumpet, and it is an instrument of superior quality and worth much more than when we got it in the 70's.

Alas, my embouchure was more fitting to lower brass instruments, so I was stuck playing trombones and baritones. (Used to be a guy in Chicago that would custom turn a mouthpiece for you for just such embouchure issues, but could never afford one.)

I also enjoy lathing, but only own a wood lathe.

All around great post.

I have a good friend who is a machinist, I watch him work sometimes in his basement just chilling, it is so relaxing.  Takes so much skill and the ability to do math on the fly just by looking at dimensions.  A lost art IMHO.

Kind of sad when they have to name a musical instrument after a deaf guy. :-)

Really cool! Machinery and tooling is really interesting in what it can do sometimes

If you like this kind of metalwork video, check out a channel called 'Clickspring' on Youtube. The guy turns out amazingly beautiful things.

barry9a Yup I agree, Barry. His clock series was great and now he's just started doing a reproduction of the antikythera mechanism I can't wait to see the end result.
