I use the ACA and I pay double what I should for insurance, but this still made me laugh.

A lie spoken by a trusted source becomes truth in as little as three times. Hear the lie enough and it becomes your own thought. Watching reasonable conservatives being manipulated into going against their own health care interests was one of the biggest deciding factors for me to leave the world of partisan politics. If friends and family members could be tricked so easily what was I being brainwashed into thinking?

One thing Jon Oliver does well is break down complicated subjects down to their base and explain them so a laymen can understand it.

normalfreak2 tldr.  Did he ever get to the part about why the provider participation in the exchanges appears to be drying up (in Illinois at least) and premium/copay prices dramatically increasing?
20 million people getting covered when you make it a requirement with penealties is not an intrinsic success.

woodyville06 I can tell you why, Because Obamacare or the ACA (affordable care act)  isn't the end all be all for healthcare in America.  In order for the ACA to work it requires insurance pools to be 80/20 (Healthy/Sick).  Offering 100 plans isn' t going to resolve insurance issues.  You have to coalesce everyone into profitable pools.  In order for it to work you need to force the non sick to pay for the sick.  That's how it works, that's the ONLY way it will work.  If you don't then here's what happens.  The Insurance companies drop the sick (they can't now due to the law, and not enough healthy people are also signing up)  Too many plans, not enough healthy people in the pools.  Lots of issues that are at the cause of the problems.

As you may be noticing we need to take away the profit motive from Healthcare.  We have to set hard margins on overhead.  Health care shouldn't be at the whim of Capitalism.   The only way to address this is a Single Payer system with a Private insurance option.  A 2 tier system keeps the integrity of the free market and Healthcare becomes a Right as a citizen if you can't afford to pay your own way.  It's the cheapest option in the long run instead of the system we have now.
