It's an experiment that has been tried several times, but so far there is not good data on the subject although there are instances on past attempts of this theory -- it's called Universal Basic Income, but is it feasible?
Here's a good Ted Talk about it. Joe Rogan even discussed its possibilities about six months ago. Lots of interesting points are brought up all around.
Personally I think we need to look into things like this, as (I hope) we are approaching the point where we won't need a large portion of the population working in manual labor.
Society will need to learn to accept that not everyone is working because there just are not that many jobs. The way I hope it goes is the only places we will really need people working is STEAM -- Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. And Art will become the default, since a large population will always want more entertainment.
Could this happen in your country? If so, what would you do to contribute to society? And could this type of utopia exist in 2017 and beyond?
