Where Do You Land On The Political Compass?

Submitted by: muert 3 months ago

Take the test here and share your score. This has shown up on IAB before, but it is always interesting to see where you fall (and if you have changed).

I am a Left leaning Libertarian. (-5.5, -6.4) according to their scale, sadly I don't know where exactly I came out last time, but I think it was somewhat close.  The Current Crowd Chart.

Based on this, I think we should quit fighting each other as Democrats and Republicans, and unite as Libertarians against both the parties.

Right leaning libertarian.  No surprise there but some of the questions were a bit wonky, a neutral option would have been nice to have.

Ack, I missed 10bears.  We have our first Authoritarian.  We can now claim to be diverse right?

Every political test tells me that me that I am liberal, but it does not mean there are any Conservative ideals that I do not support.

Hmm, I thought I would be closer to the center, but maybe I've drifted more to the left in recent years.

If felt like a lot of the questions where phrased wrong, one question was asking which is more important inflation or unemployment and I was just thinking "what a silly way of looking at it, the two are linked together."

But as my score went:

~with a loud crashing noise, Squrlz falls from the canopy of a large oak tree and lands with a thud on the political compass, breaking it. Twigs and bits of compass glass are strewn everywhere. Squrlz stands and dusts himself off~

*ahem* Sorry, misjudged a leap.

~cringing with embarrassment, Squrlz makes a quick exit~

How depressing that all the major UK political parties, even the so-called socialist Labour party, are way over to the right of the chart.

DrCribbens I think that is just a consequence of government.  (Most) Anyone who wants to work in government wants the government to have more power so that they, as a part of government have more power.  And if I am not being cynical, they still think the government can and should solve all the worlds problems. so they will tend to be towards the authoritarian part of the spectrum.

Then the (IMO) primary function of government is to continue the existence of the government.  Change brings instability which could damage the government.  Therefore they are going to tend towards being conservative even when they do want change.

Observation so far from this survey, I'm shocked how many people here are more left of center, yet, some of these people voted for an Authoritarian.  Just an interesting observation.

Look at me, ma -- I'm a libertard! Pretty close to the middle of the road actually, which I feel is accurate. I'm practically Gandhi if you go by the examples Politicalcompass gives which makes sense because I love to sleep next to naked women, much like the Mahatma.

10Bears I don't know -- we'd have to hang out and have a few drinks before I could confirm, but if you're all those things, I don't think we'd have much in common -- whenever you're in my neck of the woods, hit me up and we'll meet up.

fancylad If you are looking for more features, or just want to keep Sunny busy :P...

Allowing edits to push a post back to the top seems counter to the way I would expect IAB to work.

You might want to allow edits to approved posts without sending it back to the submission que.

And if you do that it might be a good idea to have a flag for people who can edit without sending it back to be approved.  (Could probably default to being allowed,  I think most people who submit content would also avoid trashing their own submissions.)

On the notifications page, the links to the original article are giving me 404s.

Also on the notifications page, when viewing in white on black mode, the non link text is difficult to read.

Muert In the future, IAB/I will ask trusted registered users if they want editorial status so they have access to the back end so they can ban trolls, post live to the main page, and editorial pushes.

I believe it's code Sunny has to tweak to make happen, but he's literally a dev wizard so anything that can be thought up, he can do.

(I've said it before, but I'll say it again -- he created the sweetest architecture ever with IAB. I guarantee, in a few years, his platform will surpass bloated commoner platforms like Wordpress.)

If you're interested, let me know -- you've been around for awhile and you're a good guy in my book.

However the test is missing a neutral statement.  There were some questions I would have selected a neutral stance, probably pushing me more toward the center.  But generally, Central Left is where I sit.

DromEd  First type the text you want to make a link.  Highlight the text, click the link button and paste your link into the field.  Make sure to have a character after the text if you don't want the link to extend to the rest of what you type.

Libertarian Left  That's what I am on all of these tests.  I make no bones about it that I lean left but I'm a pretty straight shooter.  Although if you read replies to my topics you'd think I'm an uber leftist liberal.  At least that's what I'm always accused of being=p

If you want to see where everyone on IAB falls relative to each other, we'll have to chain links.  First person would go to this link and add their information.  Once you have added your info, paste your new link back in the thread (and everyone ignores mine above.)
