China Wants Everyone To Know They Mean Business And Will Not Allow Anyone To Kick Them Around

Submitted by: fancylad 4 months ago News & Politics

Chinese officials were very clear in a statement today today that admits their relationship with the US could fall apart if Trump doesn't respect China's "core interests" going forward and when he becomes President in a few weeks.

To show they meant business, China reportedly flew a nuclear-capable jet over a disputed part of the South China Sea, in a move US officials say was meant to be a message to Trump.

The Xian H-6 bomber (pictured), accompanied by fighter jets, flew along the demarcation line between China and disputed territories, including Taiwan, Fox News reported. The flight was the first of its kind in more than 18 months.

So it looks like China has made its move and is letting the world know they're not Trump fans.

Trump is not as smart as he thinks he is but he is a hell of a lot smarter than people believe. He plays the fool very well, to paraphrase Terry Pratchett: diplomats often look like idiots right up till the moment they walk off with your socks.

You may be 100% correct.
I think one of Trump's strongest points is: he knows his own weaknesses, he accepts them and adapts.
Hillary was (in her own mind) perfect, infallible, 10x more capable at any task than any other human on Earth. She really believed this, I think. Just listen to her own words, study her actions: she was a nasty, micro-managing harpy with a vicious temper and a long list of enemies... Trump? He's just a guy! Lolz!

Aside from the fact that a nuclear bomber isn't really something to scare me anymore,  they are relics of the Cold War, it is just China trying to get into a big dick contest.  If a shooting war broke out, it would be in Asia.  That would piss off the increasingly friendly Putin, who would not want that in his backyard and then you have India and Pakistan which may or may not have the ability to come out and play.  If China intends on starting a war, let it land on their heads. And for a brief shining moment, the Jewel of the Orient will take on a new meaning as the continent burns.

""Since the 1960s, strategic deterrence has been the SSBN's sole mission, providing the United States with its most survivable and enduring nuclear strike capability."

Bangor-based submarines each carry up to 24 Trident II D-5 missiles, with a range of 4000 nautical miles. Each of the Trident II D-5 missiles holds up to 4 nuclear warheads. In total, each Trident warship can carry 96 hydrogen-bomb warheads.

Should the order come, the missiles are launched in a compressed air bubble, fly into space, steer in space using satellite navigation, then the warheads separate to drop onto different targets. Total flight time is 25 minutes or less, depending on how close the submarine is to the target."

You don't seem much concerned about the dangers of nuclear war, which strikes me as a little odd, frankly. First, how can you possibly predict that if a nuclear exchange broke out, it would be limited to Asia? No one can predict that. Second, even if a nuclear exchange were limited to one continent, the effects would be worldwide in terms of a depletion of the ozone layer and a dramatic cooling of the planet due to aerosols, to say nothing of the radioactive fallout. Everyone everywhere would suffer.

A nuke from China doesn't scare me as much as a complete trade embargo.  We can stop a nuke on its way here but a trade embargo would collapse our economy.

I'm not at all confident we can stop a nuke in flight. After all, we couldn't get our act together on 9/11 with massive aircraft flying at subsonic speeds for hours. In all probability, either there will be too many nukes and too many dummy warheads coming in for us to track or some nitwit in the chain of command will be asleep, AWOL, misunderstand the orders, press the wrong button, or be convinced it's just a test. Or perhaps they'll get all confused about miles and feet versus kilometers and meters.

@Squrlz4Ever: If we get nuked that bad, we don't have any more problems.  If they shut down trade, half (or more) of the goods we so love her in the USA will disappear from the shelves in a matter of days collapsing our economy.

I certainly agree that a total trade embargo from China would be a disaster (both for us and for them). But I'd take a trade embargo over a nuclear attack any day of the week.

Um, China has been 'throwing their weight around' in the South Chinba Sea for 4-5 YEARS now... Obama has pissed himself in fear and bowed down the Beijing each and every time. Abandoning America's allies to suck up to the enemy is Obama's Foreign Policy Legacy (Iran Nuclear Weapons 'deal' for example).
But that is 'not news' ...so the MSM won't touch it!
The fact that America's enemies hate Trump is good news! It means they actually fear and respect him, unlike Hillary and Barack who they openly mock and ridicule... the 'reset button' LMAO!
(Do I need to copy every comment still? Will the censor/robot blocker eat them randomly?)

Knowing they took a nuclear bomber out just to flex their muscle makes me nervous though.

Russia / USSR did that 100 to 1000 times every year, for decades. Russia still does it, but very rarely to America anymore.
I thought you'd remember that? Lolz! There's thousands of pictures and reports of it. Bears, Badgers, Backfires... ok those didn't work very well :-)
Russia has sent a 'world class' nuclear sub to the Mediterranean to go with it's fleet there, which includes their flagship aircraft carrier (the only one that works). That's far more ominous!

Next to the B-52? This is one of the best bombers ever built, bar none. It's fast as all hell too! And cruises for thousands of miles...

Luckily the president elect is a master diplomat. I'm sure he won't just have a knee-jerk antagonistic reaction to this and dig his heels in like a spoilt child without really understanding the problem. He'll apply his gargantuan intellect and everything will work out just fine for everyone.

Your sarcasm is spot-on: I don't think Trump has the self-control and stability to play this kind of gamesmanship, if that's what it is. My #1 reason for not voting for him was that I felt he shouldn't be near the nuclear codes. I'm not the only one who's worried: 10 former nuclear launch officers issued a statement back in October expressing the same concern.

You mean the CURRENT President is a knee-jerk reactionist who understands nothing. Look at Obama's long list of actual failures and tell me how your imagining Trump's failings is worse?
Just like you know nothing about international diplomacy. Or have any common sense. Trump hasn't even DONE anything and:
  1. America's enemies are afraid of him
  2. You are condemning him based on the lies and accusations of the MSM
3. The whole world is paying attention to it (the South China Sea problems) now.

Since Obama and the American MSM was officially ignoring it? Everyone knew nothing would be done. If they tried to speak up? Obama would fuck them over like he has every single one of America's allies. NOW they hope Trump will act like a proper President and actually represent America rather than the International Proletariat...

1. Well, there's a good chance that America's enemies are just getting pissed off with him. That's not a great situation.
2. Oh, please. Enough with the 'MSM lies' bullshit. It's an excuse you roll out with boring regularity. I'm capable of forming an opinion of him based on his speeches and tweets and interviews. Have the MSM hired the Bad Lip Reading people to change his words?
3. The whole world was paying attention to Poland in 1939. It's not necessarily a good thing.

Yeah, I just tried. I went and found a picture - it was hilarious, you'd have loved it - and went to my profile. Unfortunately it wasn't immediately obvious how I add a picture, so I lost interest and gave up.

1. Of course America's enemies are pissed of, they FEAR him! He might smack them around. They were fine with Hillary, she did not one single fucking thing as SoS and they know she can be bought. They bought her already!
2. Then you base your analysis on his track record... before he's taken office? Give me a break!! Lolz! You believe the lies, just admit it, we all know it.
3. Obama abandoned Poland as one of his first actions in office. Nice way to treat an ally, eh? You think anyone (except the DNC and MSM of course) has forgotten that? including Russia, who was VERY pleased to see it happen? You think that, eh? huh...

1. Politics and diplomacy is about more than getting a bunch of rednecks to wave flags and shout 'USA! USA! USA!'. Behaving in a belligerent way to get people to fear that you might smack them around is the way wars start. And by the way, I very much doubt that China fears you either politically, militarily or economically.
2. No, reread my answer. I base my analysis on the man's words. You know, like in interviews and speeches and tweets and videos about sexual assault and things like that. Is that not a valid way to form an opinion about him?
3.No... Poland in 1939 was... you know what? Doesn't matter. If you don't get that reference there's no point trying to have an intelligent discussion with you.

1. Um, so? That makes zero sense. Only 'rednecks' wave the flag eh? That's so fucking bigoted I cannot believe it. Apologize to every member of your Armed forces, and every patriotic liberal person in America, you shameless idiot.
You clearly have no idea how wars start: they start when one side (or both) believes they can win! No one started a war with the intention of losing. Sheesh. Weak America? China thinks they can win. Strong America? They will think twice before stirring the shit.
2. So yes, you admit you base your opinion on the lies and distortions of the MSM. No, that is not a valid way to predict his future actions. Try then truth or reality, for starters, not bias and lies.
3. Yes, Poland, 1939, before Germany AND RUSSIA invaded it. And Obama abandoned a missile defence deployment there, much to the anger of Poland and the joy of Russia. A few years later? He decided it was a good idea after all, but it was far too late by then, the message of weakness had been sent and understood: Obama will gladly fuck-over America's allies in an effort to appease its enemies. Trump is the opposite, and YOU hate that!

1. Ha. I'm not an American. I don't go in for your soldier worship or rabid patriotism. And nice way to avoid answering my point by the way.
2. My God, have you heard yourself? I pointed out that I was influenced by his own words from interviews and you tell me that's admitting that I'm influenced by the MSM. You can't hide behind media bias forever, 5Cats. At some point you're going to have to admit that the man's words and tweets actually reflect who he really is, however ugly that is. And by the way, it shouldn't be Trump's opponents who apologise to your armed forces. It should be people who follow the man who ridiculed the parents of a dead veteran and said that a man wasn't a war hero because he was a prisoner of war. Again, just to be sure, that isn't the MSM that told me that. It was the man's own words. Apologise to your armed forces, 5Cats.
3. I see you've developed a strategy. Whenever you can't defend Trump you just attack Obama and try to change the subject.

I'm not either, as IAB Liberals constantly remind me: "Hey! No Canadian is allowed to express an opinion on Obama!" & etc, eh? Bunch of idiots.
1. What point? Politics and Diplomacy are complex and hard,, yeah. Sliding an insult aimed at 2/3 of the USA is hardly 'diplomatic' don't you think? Anyhow, you are the one oversimplifying things...
2. Unless you regularly use 'alt-right' (what a stupid name! lolz!) sources? You've ONLY heard things about Trump that are bad, harmful or just plain untrue. The MSM gave up even pretending to be unbiased years ago. So if you base your opinions on utterly biased sources? They are, without doubt, biased opinions.

Your examples are just that: out of context, over-exaggerations, and outright LIES. He criticized that family for ATTACKING HIM and hiding behind the corpse of their son. He did NOT at any point attack or criticize the war hero son. But the MSM pounded the drums, knowing full well it wasn't true. And you blindly believed it. If you listened to his actual words and his explanation? You'd know better. But you didn't and you don't.
He said something stupid about John McCain, who was attacking him. Big deal! It's politics! The big  boys gotta get a little rough now and then.
No worries about your bigotry, as long as you're honest and admit you are brainwashed and biased, it isn't a problem :-)

I believe the discussion was about how Trump was going to deal with this situation.  Are we going to blame Obama for everything that happens during the Trump administration?  Remember how we all bitched about Obama supporters blaming Bush for everything?  Tables turned, rules stay the same.  Get a helmet.

Not really: the topic is how Trump will FAIL to deal with it, or anything else, because the MSM and DNC (sorry to be redundant) have decided for you that he will! They can see the future eh? Like how Hillary would win by a landslide, so we can totally trust them to tell the whole truth and nothing but, right???
Obama's direct actions and inactions have emboldened America's enemies. Just like Bush's actions pissed off America's enemies. Pointing out that Bush pissed them off was never a problem. Blaming Bush for Obama FAILING at various things is a problem...

The messes Bush made? Yes blame him. Except Obama EMBRACED the very things he campaigned against: Tax cuts (Obama kept them, twice!) The DHS? (Obama expanded it, massively) Drone warfare? (Obama tripled it, and deliberately killed American Citizens too) Starting wars? (don't even go there...)
So you see it? Blaming Bush for things Obama did is the problem. Blaming Trump for things Obama did is ALSO a problem. Get it yet?
My table is exactly the same as it was before, you are the one who is spinning...

To be clear: Blaming Bill for things Bush did is a problem, but the MSM never does that, correct?
They were all too happy to give Bill credit for things Reagan did of course... and for giving Obama credit for things Bush did too.
THAT is the problem: the double standard by the MSM and Democrats (sorry to be redundant) is shameless.

The only way I know to do it is to copy the picture (Ctrl-C) from your online source and then paste it (Ctrl-V) into the textbox. I haven't learned of any way to control the size of the image. I suspect the software resizes the images to something reasonable, but don't know for sure.
