National Geographic Is Now Owned By Climate Denier

Submitted by: monkwarrior 1 year ago Science
.
The Gaurdian announced yesterday that Rupert Murdoch bought a majority stake in good old National Geographic -- the publication that has been strictly a non-profit since 1888 when the first issue launched.
.
Naturally, people are raising questions and voicing concern: The biggest one so far is that Murdoch is a well-known climate denier of the notion idea that we"re the ones to blame for the climate change. Is this the guy we want heading up a publication such as NatGeo?
.
Here"s a quote from him on the topic...
.
"Climate change has been going on as long as the planet is here... How much of it are we doing, with emissions and so on? As far as Australia goes? Nothing in the overall picture."

The National Geographic magazine has been a nonprofit publication since inception in 1888, but that ended wednesday.

So... you IMAGINE this MIGHT happen, and thus condemn him in advance?

Even though this has NOT happened in the past? Since YOU pointed out some of his owned outlets openly DIS-agree with his "morals" yet they continue to operate!

Yet dozens if not hundreds of "liberal owned" and operated media outlets NAKED ATTACKED people like Bush, McCain and Palin? That is A-OK since there`s no bias involved?? It was all factual???

I`m just not seeing your point.

It seems like you willingly overlook what liberals ACTUALLY DO and attack conservatives for what they MIGHT do, even if they haven`t indicated they even want to do such a thing.

Who Printer This Cover? And why?
(For an example of what it -seems like- you`re saying.)

Just to illustrate: With Murdoch at the helm, we are highly likely to be reading stories in NatGeo with such great titles as, "The Obamas in the Wild, a story about natives rolling in filth in Afrika."

That is why there is outrage.

No, I didn`t claim that at all. I merely pointed out were the two newspapers mentioned stood politically. Then, in a separate post, discussed how none of his media should be taken seriously. It is all bias, or nonsense gossip.

So, @Elkingo is saying that the way his media outlets are RUN isn`t identical to his personal beliefs?

And this makes him... a hypocrite?

So if he changes them (these media outlets he buys) he`s BAD! and if he doesn`t change them, he`s... BAD?

Well! Talk about a lose-lose situation! :-O

And yes, the vast majority of Canada`s and USA`s `traditional newspapers` (not weeklies or recently started ones) are left-leaning or strongly leftist. From the NYT to the LAT, and all in between.

Anything in the "center" or right is immediately attacked as being "fascist" or something... I see it with my own eyes here in my city. Study after study confirms it.

Don`t get me wrong, Murdoch is a nut. Not denying that at all.

"So why all this hysteria over buying Nat Geo?"

Look what he did to TV guide (it no longer lists tv shows, and is a gossip piece), The New York Post (nothing more than a tabloid with inappropriate juxtapositions, and utilized to make fun of democrats), and other media outlets. He is pretty much a joke, and a hypocrite. I mean, the man denounces porn, and then makes money off of it on his tv stations. He isn`t to be taken seriously, or cited as credible.

@LordJim - WSJ is rated as center.

The New York Post isn`t considered as legit news, however, it`s readers are mostly right.

Hard left? By your standards, probably. By European standards more left-liberal. If you really believe that virtually every newspaper is hard left I guess that`s up to you. I think that most people would see the New York Post and the WSJ as being distictly on the right.

He only seems to own 2 American Newspapers, neither of which I`d call "ultra-right" but perhaps from your position "out in left field"?

So why all this hysteria over buying Nat Geo?

If he`s so horrible? And they`re so pure? Why did they knowingly sell it to him?

@LordJim: Since nearly every newspaper in America is "hard left"? I`d say any he owns would also be.

How about: YOU are so hard left? Even "center-left" is "ultra-right wing" to you?

I have no idea what British papers tack left or right, they`re all scandal-rags AFAIK.

So if there WERE any "right wing" newspapers in America? And he owned them? There might be some validity to this accusation.

By the sounds of the screaming? One would think he`d acquired dozens of "moderate" news media and turned them into the "Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy" or something...

I`ve heard this "song and dance" a dozen times before: when a "non-PC" person buys something? The shrieking begins! But since those publications don`t actually, you know, change? It quickly loses steam...

@5Cats,

I would like to hear more about Murdoch`s hard-left publications.

I`ll settle for two.

One?

The Sun and The Times are probably considered hard left by the American right

That`s right, keep on giving your money to rich people that say they will save you from other rich people and their man made "global warming" while they know there are far worse things happening beyond anyone`s control so that they and their off-spring can at least live like royalty until the end.

You never know, Gerry, Murdoch could bring in a new progressive editor that makes page 3 equal opportunity real estate...

The problem is you confuse when facts and reality support "liberal" ideas which aren`t really liberal you are just so damn far right you think everything is Liberal.

@5cats

I absolutely call out anyone wealthy that peddles influence If they are buying politicians or whatever I have an issue with that.

Murdoch does not peddle, he wholesales...from his limo.

Odd @nf2: You don`t say that when leftists and liberals use THEIR money (or more often: other people`s money!) to `peddle their influence`...

And as if the Nat Geo is going to change a whisker! He owns TONS of hard-left media outlets, it`s all about making money.

"Climate Denier" = lolz! There`s no such thing as `climate`!! Dag-nabbit! Now get off my lawn!
